Celebrities who commit drug-related offences should be punished more harshly than non-celebrities.

It is clear that young people today look up to celebrities. Magazines; the Internet; television; radio; posters; any form of media you name, there will be 'celebrities' there somewhere. Children and young people are constantly bombarded with images of what to be. Already, two-thirds of mothers feel they can't compare to celebrities. And celebrities continually flaunt the system when it comes to drugs. Pete Doherty and Kate Moss snort cocaine. Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears drunkenly drive. Yet little or no action is taken. When an average person is caught drunkenly driving, they can expect fines and possible a custodial sentence. Paris Hilton was in jail for less than an hour before being released. What image does this set for young people? The media shows people committing drug-related offences and getting away with it, and hence it makes it socially acceptable for young people. Celebrities need harsher punishments to show young people that taking drugs is in no way acceptable.

LAS VEGAS - Police say Paris Hilton has been arrested for possession of cocaine after officers stopped the car she was in on a Las Vegas street late Friday night.

Public Information officer Marcus Martin says Hilton was booked into the Clark County Detention Center early Saturday morning on a charge of possession of cocaine.

He says she was in a car driven by a friend that was stopped when officers noticed what they suspected to be marijuana smoke coming from it.

Martin says that during the stop officers found what appeared to be a controlled substance on Hilton and tests showed that it was cocaine.

Japan bars Paris Hilton from entering country


Paris Hilton was denied entrance into Japan on Wednesday, two days after she pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drug charge in Las Vegas.

Japan has strict immigration laws that bar entry to those convicted of drug offenses, although exceptions are occasionally granted.
Just before taking off, Hilton tweeted a message to her fans.
"Going home now. So disappointed to miss my fans in Asia. I promise to come back soon. I love you all! Love Paris xoxo."

“I’m going back home, and I look forward to coming back to Japan in the future,” a smiling Hilton said to reporters at Tokyo’s airport.

The 29-year-old celebrity socialite was supposed to promote her fashion and fragrance lines at a news conference Wednesday morning in Tokyo. She arrived Tuesday evening but was stopped at the airport and spent the night at a hotel there after being questioned by officials.

The move also abruptly canceled Hilton’s planned appearances in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Jakarta, Indonesia.

Hilton’s publicist Dawn Miller wrote in a statement that Hilton plans to make the trips at a later date.

“Paris is very disappointed and fought hard to keep her business commitments and see her fans, but she is forced to postpone her commitments in Asia,” Miller’s statement, sent as Hilton’s flight left, said. “Paris understands and respects the rules and laws of the immigration authorities in Japan and fully wishes to cooperate with them.”

A Japanese immigration official said she was denied entry Wednesday after a total of about six hours of questioning over the two days. The country has taken a tough line with famous figures in the past, although it also grants exceptions on occasion.

Lindsay Lohan could land in jail once again, as L.A. County Probation Dept. will recommend Judge Elden Fox to throw the actress behind bars for failing two drug tests.

Lindsay tested positive for both cocaine and amphetamines in court ordered drug test.
Lindsay could get 30 days for each failed test.

I've made many errors, admits Tiger Woods

Two days after former model Elin Nordegren divorced him, disgraced golfer Tiger Woods confessed he had many mistakes but didn't say if he still loved his former wife.
"You don't ever go into a marriage looking to get divorced. I've made a lot of errors in my life and it's something I have to live with," Woods said a day before The Barclays tournament begins in Paramus, New Jersey.

Woods was asked if he still loved Nordegren but he did not answer the question, nypost.com reports.

Nordegren told People magazine earlier that she had "been through hell" dealing with reports of her ex-husband's numerous affairs.

In response, Woods said: "I understand that she's sad and I feel the same way."

The couple officially announced their divorce Monday.

Swedish Nordegren said she "feels stronger than I ever have" following the split.

She said she and Woods tried for months to reconcile but in the end a marriage "without trust and love" wasn't good for anyone, she said in her first interview since it was revealed last November that Woods bedded several women.



Last year, on Thanksgiving night, Woods drove his SUV into a tree outside his Florida driveway, setting off a series of shocking revelations that the golf superstar had been cheating on his wife.

Post their divorce, Woods has praised his ex-wife as a "supportive" and "wonderful mother".

"This is a very painful, personal and private time for our family. Throughout this entire time, Elin has shown unwavering concern and support for our children. She is a wonderful mother," aceshowbiz.com quoted him as saying.

"I know that the two of us will do everything we can to help our children adjust to this new family situation," he said.



"We both cherish the time we can spend with Sam and Charlie. Whether it's taking Sam to school or hitting balls with Charlie on the range, nothing gives me more enjoyment than these simple pleasures. We have two special kids, and I'm going to enjoy every minute with them.

"Personally, I am learning to balance family and golf. My children come first and always will, but I also appreciate golf more than ever. I understand how important the fans and the game are to me. I know how lucky I am to do what I do for a living, and I am deeply grateful for everyone who has supported me."

Mexico's Jimena Navarrete crowned Miss Universe

Jimena Navarrete, a 22-year-old model from Mexico, was named Miss Universe in Las Vegas on Monday, extending Latin America’s domination of the pageant to three consecutive years.

The first runner-up was Miss Jamaica, Yendi Phillipps, while Miss Australia, Jesinta Campbell, was second runner-up. Miss Ukraine, Anna Poslavska came in fourth, ahead of Miss Philippines, Venus Raj.



Navarrete, a nature enthusiast from Guadalajara, revealed earlier in the competition that she wanted to work with women who suffer from eating disorders.

“I studied nutrition and I would like everyone to understand that it is not about your looks it is how you feel inside,” the 5-foot-nine brunette said through an interpreter. “And when you feel good inside you look good.”


She becomes the second Mexican to take the crown, following Lupita Jones in 1991. Venezuela claimed the title in 2008 and 2009, but in a surprise the country failed to make it past the first cut, when the 83 contestants were reduced to 15.

Also eliminated at the outset was Miss USA Rima Fakih, a Muslim of Lebanese heritage who recently declared her opposition to a planned mosque near the former site of the World Trade Center.

From the start, the pageant was a close race among Mexico, Jamaica and the Philippines, whose contestants all rated strongly in the swimwear and evening wear sections. But Miss Philippines bombed during the question section, failing to detail her biggest mistake and what she did to fix it.

Miss Jamaica, a self-confessed adrenaline junkie who likes to jump off cliffs and swim with sharks, may have been too strong-willed for organizers. She boldly declared her opposition to the death penalty, saying only God has the right to take lives.

Miss Mexico, helped by an interpreter, had no problem answering an easy question about the perils of the Internet for the children.Asked by Olympic gold-medal figure skater Evan Lysacek how she felt about unsupervised Internet use, Ms. Navarrete said the Internet is important but parents need to be careful and watch over their kids.

“I do believe that Internet is an indispensable, necessary tool for the present time,” she said through an interpreter. “We must be sure to teach them the values that we learned as a family.”

Miss Australia, at 19 the youngest to make it to the final five, was also forthright during the question segment, saying governments have no right to regulate women’s religious clothing. But Miss Ukraine took a pro-authority stance by backing airport body scanners that see through clothes.

The pageant, in its 59th year, was hosted by rock musician Bret Michaels and TV news personality Natalie Morales at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
