WWII chest & arm piece

Started WWII arm & chest piece this week, greylined it on the first session, so excited to start shading it.
This piece is a mix of personal interest & sentimental value for Mike.
I'll update pictures of each session as its being completed.

Release date set for New Tattoo DVD is October

A new Edinburgh Tattoo DVD featuring highlights from this year’s popular 60th Castle Esplanade spectacular is due for international release on Monday, October 19th.
The 90-minute recording includes previously unseen footage of performers as distinctive and diverse as the She Huo cultural troupe from Edinburgh’s twin city of Xi’an in China, the South Sea Island magic of Tonga’s Royal Corps of Musicians, the Swiss Army’s elite military orchestra – the Central Band, and one of the world’s most sensational percussion groups, the Top Secret Drum Corps from Basel.

Unreleased extras on the DVD includes a behind-the-scenes featurette focusing on activities beyond the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle, and a video news release, which provides a flavour of the rich variety on show at this year’s Military showpiece event.

The programme comes complete with musical favourites such as Scotland the Brave, The Black Bear and the powerful spiritual Amazing Grace, together with a specially commissioned composition entitled Tour of Duty by Runrig founder member and Scottish Traditional Composer of 2008, Blair Douglas.

The film of the 60th Tattoo was recorded for BBC Television by John Smith and includes the commentary of BBC Scotland Radio presenter Iain Anderson, while West Linton-based film production company, Electric Picture Machine, fashioned the extra material for the DVD.

My new machines arrived today!

Finally got them..... felt like I was waiting for them forever..... And hopefully worth the wait....

Teeny lightweight machines for teeny hands. Thats what I need.

Liorcifer & The London Tattoo Convention

I met Liorcifer at the London Convention... Now, when I look back, I wish I'd been brave enough to ask him some questions... Oh well, my loss... I'll have to pluck up the courage for this year.
He was really lovely though, so hopefully I wont be so scared to speak to him properly next time.

Interview for Soundscape Magazine

The lovely Nadine and Anneka came to the studio from Soundscape Magazine, asked me lots of questions after a long day, so excuse my jumbled answers.

four pillars:

The programme Edinburgh Military Tattoo format is best described as four pillars:
Pillar 1 - The mainstay of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo is the Massed Pipes and Drums. This element has increased in size in the last few years and audiences can now expect to see a minimum of 10 pipe bands and military bands (i.e. 200 musicians) from Scottish regiments and the Commonwealth.
Pillar 2 - Massed Military Bands (brass and woodwind) are also key to the programme - the finest - Guards Bands, Royal Marines, Royal Air Force, etc. They can be relied on to provide the formal military marching music, as well as more modern and contemporary music.
Pillar 3 - The variety in the middle of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo programme is found from home and abroad - such things as Highland dancing and military displays from home. From overseas, a wide range of bands, cultural performances and displays, including military bands from the Commonwealth, USA & Europe, steel bands, and cultural groups such as: Zulus, Maoris, Aboriginals and Polynesians have all provided interest in Edinburgh Military Tattoo's of past.
Pillar 4 - The Finale of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The aim here is to present the whole cast on the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade, which is a spectacular sight, particularly with the unique Edinburgh Castle backdrop. The music is the culmination and climax of the event perhaps, emotional, even patriotic, certainly moving. Combined Bands and Pipes & Drums with choir and sometimes a solo singer. This is followed by the more traditional Evening Hymn and Sunset and the Lone Piper of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
Performers from five continents - Africa, North America, Asia, Australia and Europe - are set to feature amongst one of the biggest casts ever assembled at Edinburgh Castle for the 2004 Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

The event takes place annually throughout August, as part of the wider Edinburgh Festival. For Edinburgh Military Tattoo tickets, sports tickets, opera-ballet tickets, concert tickets, theatre tickets and exclusive event tickets in the UK and worldwide.
